Morning CryEnglish narration

FEELING, IN COLOR

Every Hue, Opalescent

A pale opal turning between tweezers as green, red, gold, and blue flashes move across it.A pale opal displaying green, red, gold, and blue play-of-color.

In an opal, tiny silica spheres diffract light, creating flashes of color that shift as the stone turns. Move your cursor over the scene below to see those tears become opalescent sparks.

A man in a green shirt, overwhelmed with feeling, sits over a bowl of oatmeal in warm morning light.

THE APARTMENT BEHIND THE POEM

Where I Wrote and Cried

This is a slightly cartoonified photograph of the apartment in New Haven where I wrote many of these poems—and also where I regularly cried.

A slightly cartoonified view of a bright New Haven apartment, with an arrow marking where the author cried over his oatmeal.
